Miles Davis & John Coltrane The Final Tour is a four compact disc live album compiling five sets from three locations of performances by the Miles Davis Quintet in Europe during late March 1960. The anthology was released by Legacy in 2018 and topped the Billboard Jazz Albums chart

The performances on this album, The Final Tour: Paris, March 21, 1960 - released here officially on vinyl for the first time-are as renowned for their emotional intensity as they are for their musical fervor.

Miles Davis and John Coltrane were each implementing their own jazz revolutions at the time these recordings were made and the electrifying sonic frisson produced by the ng musical visions of the artists perplexed contemporary jazz fans–many of whom were just getting acquainted with the recently-released and now iconic Kind of Blue. The set won the 2016 NAACP Image Award for the Outstanding Jazz Album category.

The Final Tour: Copenhagen, March 24, 1960. Miles and Coltrane first collaborated in 1955, when Davis recruited the tenor saxophonist alongside pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones. Just listen to Chambers and Cobb on the March 21 "So What"-that's jazz baby! There's little let up between gigs-this is one hot band-even though it was beginning to fall apart musically. All through these shows you can hear Coltrane straining against Davis' more straight ahead approach, and this is what's so exciting to hear-Coltrane making his move toward his own sound-while Davis continues along in his melodic, post be-bop style.

WOW!! The price range is a real rip off! Bought my copy for $29 from the actual VMP website! LOL
Early Waffle
This is now back in stock in the vinyl me please store!
Nirad
This is a great reissue. I own the 4 CD disc set Live in Paris 1960 and this reissue does a much better job of capturing the nuances and ambiance of the performance.
Cerana
First time EVER released! Not a reissue. Check with VMP, Miles Davis' website, and ultimately, the back of the jacket.
Maridor
This was discussed at length in the release notes and here: https://www.discogs.com/forum/thread/764255
Dorilune
This one is still available through VMP directly, don't pay too much to flippers.
Modigas
This is a great, first ever release of this show. I am so glad VMP decided to release this for the very first time! Great job VMP!!!
Vut
Agreed! So glad this is finally in my collection. Was waiting for it since it was announced. VERY well done!
Nikojas
Excellent set. Great quality vinyl. Nice jacket, just slightly thicker than the jacket for the other "Final Tour" vinyl release (The Stockholm show). Listening notes booklet is a nice touch, really helps describe what was going on in the band (specifically with Coltrane) at the time. The sound of this concert doesn't have quite the clarity or definition of the Stockholm concert, but still sounds great, nice mono sound. I was lucky to get a copy from a seller here on discogs, but I can't believe Columbia only issued this as a Vinyl Me Please Classics release, as I feel this concert was one most Miles fans would have been interested in, maybe even more so than the Stockholm concert, and I'm sure it would have sold well. Anyway, get this if you can. Awesome performance, and well done pressing and package.
Warianys
Congratulations to that pick of VMP.First time on vinyl in a perfect manner both pressing and cover. Thanks for that music changing moment when Coltrane opens live a door to a new music world. Better than Dylan going electric. Sorry Bob.
Qudanilyr
The listening notes weren't ready with the shipment. They sent mine in April. Hope you got yours.
Togar
Yeah, I didn't receive listening notes with my copy either. From the looks of it, they will send out the notes with April's shipment. Guess we will see.
Phain
There was an issue with the listening notes and they are being sent out next month
Cel
Do you have the listening notes? They’re somehow missing in my copy.
