For over four decades, Young had displayed a restless creative streak that has resulted in him performing and recording hundreds (if not thousands) of great songs with a wide variety of solo bands, to say nothing of his famous collaborative groups. We did our best to boil down the most important tracks from one of rock's most impressive archives here: 10. 'Down By The River'. From: ‘Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere’ (1969). Many argue that it was on his sophomore record that Neil Young began truly finding his voice. This rocker nears the 10-minute mark showing that even early in his career,.
Last week, Neil Young and Crazy Horse ended their eight-year break with a triumphant new tour kickoff in Albuquerque. The results range over a 30-year period from 1969 to 1992, though the vast majority of the selected albums were released in the 1970s. Complete your Neil Young collection. This showed us what was to come from the amazing Neil Young. An Americana album of such fine quality. From the distorted guitars of The Loner to the subtle Here We are In The Years which is one of the most beautiful songs ever penned by Young. If he had produced no further albums then we would still see this as a classic. But we all know Young has produced many a fine album since: this was just the beginning. Absolutely love this song, probably one of Neil Young’s bluesiest. You sense that he’s really down and disillusioned on this album, it has some of his best songs. Again, incredibly honest with his feelings and it really shines through; you can’t fake that stuff without people sensing it a mile off. There is also very beautiful guitar on this track. He’s an underrated guitarist in my book. I think he doesn’t get classed as ‘up there’ with some of the best because he doesn’t mind it being scrappy and messy – it’s his style
Is the best Neil Young album also one of the most commercially successful? Harvest was the best selling album in 1972. One of Young’s best known songs, the political anthem Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World, was a single off of 1989’s Freedom. The country-tinged sounds and beautiful lyrics of After The Gold Rush cemented Young as a living songwriting legend. With so many classics in the Neil Young discography, it might be hard to decide which is the greatest Neil Young album. This list of the top Neil Young albums contains shining examples from every era of Young’s decades long career.
Best album closer - One of Neil Young's best, the lyrics and guitar-work are so intimate and heartfelt. I seriously doubt most so called "fans" have even heard On the Beach (the album). Too bad 'cause it's a classic and this song THE antithetic pop song. All it offers is a lot of soul and some good advice. A dark sound, definitely the best song of neil young. 28 isn't bad, but it could be better.
Best Neil Young Album. Named best album for 1975 by Rolling Stone magazine. If one wonders at the difference between Harvest and On The Beach it's because those two deaths would change Neil. They would change anyone. Side note: Its February 2017 and I am literally on the edge of civilization in Oriental Mindoro, The Philippines.
