That's What You Get Babe is the ninth studio album by Kevin Ayers and his final recording for Harvest. Ayers had retired to Deià, Spain directly after 1978's Rainbow Takeaway and That's What You Get Babe was his first public appearance in two years.
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET BABE - Originally released in 1980. It mostly features Ayers, Graham Preskett (different spelling) on multiple instruments, Ollie Halsall on guitar, Mo Foster on bass, Liam Genocky and Trevor Murrell on drums, and Roy Jones on percussion. The title track has a dominant minor and sad verse and main melody, and reflection of things not working out. But then the chorus kicks in, and is more upbeat, showing that Ayers knows not to let life get you down. There are some deep feelings on this album, and life reflections. The title track includes "That's what you get for following dreams, never turn out how they should it seems, that's what you get for losing yourself", which I can personally relate to after a failed relocation to a new area to start a new life.

It's just when you finish listening to this album, you forget quicky about it. KEVIN AYERS has definitely renounced on everything that has prog elements, not that he was really proggy in the first place lately, but he always tried to mix some proggish ingredients here and there on some of his songs. RAINBOW TAKEWAY is just a simple songs album, more on the folk troubadour style. But most importantly, the inspiration seems to have dried up and we are now very far away removed from the magic that graced AYERS first solo albums.
